Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY)

Integrated Watershed Management Programme (IWMP) has been launched by Govt. of India from the year 2009-10, based on the Common Guidelines for all watershed programmes issued in 2008. The main objective of the scheme is to restore the ecological balance, by harnessing, conserving and developing our degraded natural resources such as soil, water and vegetative cover. The outcomes envisaged in the programme are prevention of soil erosion, regeneration of natural vegetation, rain water harvesting and recharging of ground water. This enables multi cropping, and the introduction of diverse agro-based activities, which help to provide sustainable livelihoods to the people residing in the watershed area.

From the financial year of 2015-16, GoI has launched a new scheme called Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY) after amalgamation of ongoing schemes like, Integrated Watershed Management Programme (IWMP), Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIBP), and On-Farm Water Management Component of National Mission on Sustainable Agriculture Management (NMSA). Major components of the new scheme are

1, Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIBP),

2, PMKSY (Har Khet ko Pani),

3, PMKSY (Per Drop More Crop) ,

4, PMKSY (Watershed).

Thus IWMP has now been converted as PMKSY – Watershed Development. All the existing activities of IWMP will be continued under PMKSY – Watershed Development.
